Did you know that 60% of the global population will spend roughly one-third of their adult lives at work? This striking reality underscores why workplace nutrition programs are such a critical piece of the puzzle in our fight against malnutrition worldwide. But workforce nutrition interventions aren’t just about addressing a global health challenge; they are also a smart business decision. These programs deliver a double benefit: improved health and nutrition outcomes for workers, alongside enhanced productivity and cost savings for employers.
With women making up up to 40.2% of the global labor force, it's especially important to ensure that workplace policies support their unique needs. Recently, Alive & Thrive had the privilege of being invited by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) to lead a masterclass on supporting working mothers to continue breastfeeding. This session focused on one of the key components of the Happy Workforce Program, an initiative designed to enhance the health, nutrition, and wellbeing of employees working in a variety of sectors.
The masterclass brought together insights and practical strategies for creating workplace environments where mothers feel supported in their breastfeeding journey, a crucial investment in both maternal and child nutrition that pays dividends for families and businesses alike.
